The Chronic Illness Rebel — Weekly Letter
Arthur John Rosen | Registered Therapeutic Reflexologist & Craniosacral Therapist (please read my full disclosure below).
I provide natural therapies that support the body’s natural healing abilities, and share what I’ve experienced and witnessed along the way.
Greetings,
You were not meant to manage your condition. You were meant to live your life. There is a difference — and it is worth living toward.
I spent decades balancing corporate ledgers as a Chartered Accountant, before I spent my days helping people restore balance to their health.
If you spend your working hours managing high-stakes figures, intense legal cases, corporate deadlines, patient care, or the constant daily pressures of running a business or a classroom, I know exactly what your life looks like — and I know what it is doing to your body, physically and emotionally.
When you manage a demanding career, it is easy to find yourself trapped with problems you don’t want. You face a baseline of continuous exhaustion, physical tension, stress and persistent digestive distress that leaves you feeling permanently depleted. On the other side, you find yourself endlessly chasing results you want but don’t have—like waking up feeling refreshed, sleeping through the night without an anxious mind, and eating comfortably without pain.
You want your health to run smoothly, but your internal system remains stuck.
For the first half of my life, I believed that logic lived strictly in numbers, spreadsheets, and structured corporate systems. But when I faced my own severe health crises—losing my right eye to cancer at age 41 and later navigating a grueling battle with Crohn’s disease—I realized something profound. The human body is the most complex, highly structured system in existence. And just like a business ledger, it cannot run a deficit forever without crashing.
Traditional medicine was vital to my survival; it saved my life when I had cancer, and I hold the medical profession in the absolute highest regard. But as I sought to truly reverse my Crohn’s disease and reclaim my vitality, I discovered that my body needed something more than just symptom management. It needed system restoration. That curiosity led me to a radical pivot. At age 63, I went back to school to study the human body, eventually completing my training in Therapeutic reflexology and Craniosacral Therapy (CST).
The Logic Behind the Light Touch
To my analytical accountant’s brain, Craniosacral Therapy made perfect sense. Skeptics often wonder, “How can a touch so gentle actually change anything?”
Think of your nervous system as the central server of a massive corporation. When you are under chronic stress, your system is flooded with adrenaline. It gets locked into a continuous, exhausting “fight-or-flight” loop. Your internal server is jammed, making it impossible for natural cellular healing or smooth digestion to take place. You try your hardest to force your body to relax through sheer willpower, but you cannot resolve a system overload with more pressure.
The Possibility of a System Reboot
What if a completely different way of treating your body is possible? What if you could step outside the loop of endless exhaustion and give your nervous system a clean slate?
Craniosacral Therapy opens up that exact possibility. It doesn’t force your body to change. Instead, by listening to the subtle craniosacral rhythm—the fluid pulse surrounding your brain and spinal cord—a practitioner uses precise, gentle hand placements to communicate safety directly to your deep anatomy.
It is the physiological equivalent of a system reboot. It gives your over-taxed body the precise pause it needs to correct its own imbalances, ease deep structural restrictions, and restore its natural economy.
Today, at 86 years old, I am living proof of what happens when you listen to the body’s hidden logic. I don’t just write about these principles; I live them, and I witness them in my practice in Johannesburg. If you are currently facing chronic fatigue, burnout, stress or unyielding digestive distress, please know this: your body is not failing you. It is simply running a deficit and asking for a different kind of support.
The universe doesn’t just reward hard work; it rewards the audacity to believe you can heal. As the saying goes: “By the yard it’s hard, by the inch it’s a cinch.” Take that first logical step for your health, pause the noise, and allow your nervous system to find its balance again one small step at a time.

Small Shifts, Big Results
This week, your small shift is to perform a 60-second “System Audit” on your body when your workload or corporate stress begins to pile up:
- Pause the spreadsheets: Completely take your hands off your keyboard, close your eyes, and drop your shoulders away from your ears.
- Scan the assets: Slowly bring your awareness down from your racing thoughts to your physical body. Notice where you are holding tension—is it a clenched jaw, a tight neck, or a knotted stomach?
- Signal safety: Unclench your muscles deliberately, let your posture soften like a reed, and take two deep, unhurried breaths to tell your nervous system that you are safe in this exact moment.
I’m honoured that you read this. Whatever you’re working towards, I’m rooting for you, but more importantly, make sure you’re rooting for yourself.
