Arthur John Rosen • Therapeutic Reflexologist & Craniosacral Therapist – I’m not a medical doctor — please read my full disclosure before acting on anything here. I provide natural therapies that support the body’s natural healing abilities, and share what I’ve experienced and witnessed along the way

Not give up. Not stop caring. Just — wait. Wait until it gets bad enough. Wait until the next flare settles. Wait until after the holiday, after the deadline, after the children are sorted. Wait until the wheels come off.

Most people living with a chronic condition don’t make that decision consciously. It happens quietly, in the space between one disappointing consultation and the next. You were told there is no cure. You were told to take your medication and learn to live with it. And somewhere along the way, waiting started to feel like the only sensible thing left to do.

I understand that. I lived it.

The Eleven Words That Tried to Close the Door

In 2004 I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. The verdict was delivered in eleven words: “We don’t know what causes it, there is no cure”. I was told to take my medication and manage my symptoms. The consultation ended. I went home.

What I did not do was wait.

I was studying Therapeutic Reflexology at the time — retraining at 64, with one eye, after a melanoma had taken the sight in my right eye  more than two decades earlier. I had already learned, the hard way, that the system running out of answers was not the same thing as there being no answers. I went on to train in Craniosacral Therapy. And I reversed my Crohn’s — without medication.

I am not telling you this to impress you. I am telling you because I know what it costs to wait — and I know what becomes possible when you stop.

What Waiting Actually Costs — And Nobody Adds It Up

Let’s be honest about something that rarely gets said in a consultation room.

You have probably spent years — and a great deal of money — trying to get well. Specialists. Tests. Scans. Repeat consultations for the same unresolved problem. Medications, month after month, year after year. Perhaps alternative therapies that promised more than they delivered. All of it spent managing symptoms. None of it spent looking for the cause.

And you are still unwell.

That is not a failure of effort. You have tried harder than most people will ever know. It is a failure of the question being asked — or rather, not asked. Because the question that might actually change things — “what is causing this? “— is rarely the one that gets asked.

Now add the time. The years of consultations that went nowhere. The holidays that were planned and cancelled. The meals eaten with one eye on the exit. The mornings spent bracing instead of living. The career moments quietly missed. The relationships strained by an illness that nobody can see but you carry every single day.

If you feel frustrated — not just unwell, but genuinely frustrated — that is not impatience. That is a completely reasonable response to a very long time spent paying a very high price for very little return.

You are allowed to feel that. And you are allowed to wonder if there is a better question to be asking.

The Question Nobody Asked You

What I have found — in my own body and in my work with others — is that the question that changes things is rarely the one that gets asked. You have been told what you have. You have rarely been asked why.

That single shift — from symptom to source, from what to why — is where things begin to move. Not dramatically. Not overnight. But they move.

If you have ever heard words like: “We don’t know what causes it “and felt, somewhere quietly, that this was not the whole story — you were right to feel that. The cause is worth exploring. The body is worth listening to. And the right question, asked seriously and followed honestly, can change everything.

What Becomes Possible

What I have watched become possible — for myself and for others — is people who stopped planning their days around their symptoms. Who made it through a meal without anxiety. Who slept through the night for the first time in years. Who woke up one morning and realised they hadn’t thought about their gut once the day before.

That is not a promise. It is what becomes possible when the body is listened to from the source rather than the surface.

You have already paid an enormous price — in time, in money, in hope spent and not returned. The question worth asking now is not whether you can afford to try something different. It is whether you can afford to keep waiting.

My book, How to Be Free of IBD, was written for everyone who has ever been told to simply learn to live with a chronic condition — and who suspected, quietly, that this was not the whole story. It costs less than a single consultation — and it begins with the question that changed everything for me. It is available on Amazon.

A Three-Day Challenge

For the next three days, keep a simple note on your phone. Each time you make a small decision shaped by your condition — skipping a meal, avoiding a plan, staying home, bracing before an outing — write it down without judgement. Just notice. At the end of three days, read it back. Not to feel worse. To see clearly what waiting is actually costing you — in time, in energy, in the life happening around you. Awareness, honestly held, is often the first thing that moves.

Cheering you on,

Arthur John

I share my journey and what I have watched become possible. I am not a medical doctor and nothing I write or say is medical advice.

The experiences shared here are offered to illustrate what is possible — not as a guaranteed blueprint or medical prescription for your specific condition. Nothing here is a substitute for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Please consult your healthcare team before making any major changes to your treatment.

Arthur’s book, How to Be Free of IBD, is available on Amazon.
